Hanno van Zyl is an artist and freelance designer and illustrator. His work as an artist is very much informed by his experience as a commercial illustrator.
In his work, Hanno explores the underbelly of everyday South-African life, by examining its details often forgotten by dominant cultural narratives and popular discourse. His work highlights themes of fear, poverty and violence: in a stark and unapologetic light. By aestheticising the banal he elevates its status and attempts to address the parts of our everyday lives and identities that are often discarded or overlooked.
Hanno is based in Cape Town and works from his collaborative studio space 'Only Today' in Woodstock.
